Things to Consider When Hiring a Wedding Vendor

Hiring a Vendor

A couple needs all the help they can get on the wedding day. No doubt you will hire at least one vendor, if not then kudos to you for getting away with not hiring anyone! But for the rest of us, it’s important to trust whoever you’ve got working for you on the most important day of your lives.

In my opinion your vendor must be…

  • Someone you get along with, it’s very hard to work with someone you don’t like and really, would you want to pay someone you can’t stand?
  • Skilled at what they do, it gives you peace of mind when you can trust that your vendor will do things the right way. If they are on the same wavelength as you, you will have nothing to worry about.
  • A problem solver, weddings aren’t perfect and they need to know how to correct a mistake or at least keep things going smoothly if it can’t be corrected.
  • Reputable, always hire after doing a lot of research, look at portfolios, call references, read reviews, be thorough because there’s no turning back when you sign the contract.
  • Helpful, a vendor should be willing to listen to your concerns and answer accordingly, or even make suggestions as to how something can be done better. Open communication is the key.
  • A good communicator, a good vendor will answer emails and return phone calls promptly. The last thing you want is a vendor that’s M.I.A.

When hiring someone it’s important to have something in writing, whether it be email, a receipt or an actual contract. This is especially important if you have special requests, not normally provided with their services. That way, you will have something to fall back on if something goes wrong. Remember to read a contract carefully and make sure you agree to everything before you sign.
