The Wedding Binder

Can’t afford a wedding planner?  Me neither.  Be prepared to tackle on one of the most complicated, and most important events in your lives.  I did, and managed to survive at the end of it! So let me share with you something that really helped with the planning process: the wedding binder.

You can find wedding planning workbooks at bookstores but it’s very easy to make your own.  All you need is a binder and a set of dividers.  Here are my suggested categories for each section:

  • Master Wedding Checklist (I used The Knot’s checklist which you can find here.)
  • Budget
  • Dress
  • Venue (can be divided into 2 if the ceremony and reception are separate)
  • Flowers
  • Caterer
  • Decor
  • Cake
  • Photographer
  • Guestlist
  • Invitations
  • Favors
  • Transportation
  • DJ
  • Wedding Coordinator (if you choose to have one)
  • For the Groom
  • Receipts
  • Miscellaneous

Some examples of what you can include in the binder:

  • Receipts, correspondence, and contracts from each vendor
  • A rough budget as a guide
  • Inspiration pictures for your flowers, decor, dress, tuxes
  • Your guestlist, complete with addresses, emails, and phone numbers
  • Floorplans and seating charts
  • Bridal party and vendor contact list

Since wedding planning can be overwhelming, this binder was my one-stop reference source.  With so many details involved in a wedding, it’s easy to forget things like the flavour of cake you ordered or if a service was included in the contract or not. With everything filed together, you can just flip through and find the answer.  This is also important in case there is a problem down the road and need to refer to a contract. The last thing you want is to lose important information.

I hope this helps with your planning! If you have other suggestions to put into the binder, feel free to leave a comment :)
