The Loft at Earls Yaletown for the Budget Bride

Last year I was made aware of a hot new event space in Yaletown. I, along with many others from the Vancouver wedding industry, were invited to the launch of The Loft at Earls Yaletown and I was pleasantly surprised by how affordable it was for the location, I just had to write about it! Sales and Events Coordinator Brittany Walker (also a planner with Vancity Vendor Epic Events) describes it like this…

The heritage brick and beam construction with contemporary coastal designs creates a memorable and romantic space to celebrate in with your friends and family.

The Loft is truly a unique space, there is no other lounge like it in the Vancouver area. The classically contemporary design boasts character throughout with cobalt blue sofas, vintage gold light fixtures and trendy art installations. We pride ourselves on irresistible food and drink as well as an engaging experience to every one of our guests. We provide an experience that starts the second you walk into The Loft and an experience you won’t forget when you leave.”

(Note: I have tried the food and their house wine – I thought it was fantastic!)

The private room seats 96 guests and is also a wonderful option for a ceremony space. The lounge features a main bar and is THE prime cocktail party space, with lots of space for mingling. The lounge alone can accommodate up to 150 guests (standing) or you can buy out both the private room and lounge to host up to 300 of your friends and family. As an added convenience, the floor has its own separate washrooms from the rest of the restaurant as well as elevator access. My favourite thing about this space is that there are no rental feesbut you must meet a minimum food and beverage spend of course. This varies on the time of year and day of the week so it’s best to contact Brittany with your wedding date to see what they can do for you. To give you an idea, if you were hosting an engagement party in their private room during January for 50 guests, the minimum spend would be $2,000. However, when hosting a wedding in July the minimum spend would increase to $11,000 for a full buyout of our second floor. A tip, if you want the lowest minimum spend requirements, consider weddings on Sundays through Thursdays during their off season. Their peak seasons include June through September, November and December.

They will provide chairs, tables, plates, glassware, flatware, service staff and even AV equipment (including projector, screen, wireless microphone and sound system) at no additional cost. The lounge space is fully equipped with a variety of furniture including sofas, arm chairs, coffee tables as well as more restaurant style seating such as booths and tables.

The venue doesn’t really need much decoration, the exposed brick adds character and ambience and in my opinion, you don’t really need to add to it… but if you want to dress it up a bit, early access to the venue is possible if there is no event booked that morning. Brittany says…

“Our staff begin set up 1-2 hours prior to the scheduled guest arrival however we often can have the room set up for you following our last event. At the end of the evening, guests and vendors must be completed no later than 2:00 am.”

The team will be in charge of cleanup of the venue, food service and bar equipment, but not wedding decor and personal items. Clients are responsible for bringing those home at the end of the evening.

There are some restrictions you need to be aware of though. Large bands are not allowed but they often have DJ’s, trios and quartets perform at their events. Parking in Downtown Vancouver, especially in Yaletown, as we all know can be a bit of a hassle. The venue doesn’t have its own lot but there are options nearby such as street parking, valet, and parking garages. What I would suggest though, since you’re going to a wedding and all, is to take the Canada Line which is only a block away. That way, you can indulge and have fun without having to drive home afterwards. The OPUS Hotel is also walking distance if you prefer to stay overnight. The Loft has a great relationship with OPUS and are happy to provide respectable room rates for couples and their guests.
