The Vancouver Golf Club for the Budget Bride

The Vancouver Golf Club for the Budget Bride

I came across the Vancouver Golf Club while looking for a wedding venue for a friend. I saw pictures of their banquet room on various photographers’ websites and I was immediately drawn in by the beautiful wood and stone fireplace. I had to find out more about this venue! I got in touch with their catering manager, Graham Saunders and he invited me in for a tour.

The Vancouver Golf Club is nestled on the cusp of the Burnaby-Coquitlam border, east of North Road. It is a private golf course for members of the club but non-members may avail of their banquet services. The banquet rooms are kept separate and has its own lounge and bar area, perfect for cocktail hour. The main banquet hall, named the Coquitlam Room is actually a combination of 2 rooms: the Deckside Room and the Fireside Room. A removable dividing wall separates the two for smaller groups. The difference is that the Deckside Room has better access to the patio and the Fireside Room has the fireplace.

Both rooms can hold up to 60 people each for a seated dinner but combine them and it can hold up to 175 for a dinner and dance event. Rental fees are very reasonable at $250 each for the Deckside and Fireside Rooms or $500 for both and it includes use of the outer lounge area with bar, use of their large patio, and the adjoining President’s Lounge (where buffets can be served). It’s an amazing room with floor to ceiling windows which will allow you to enjoy spectacular views of the golf course and city. The best parts about booking here is that you have use of the room from 8 AM until 2 the next morning and they only book one wedding at the time, so you can rest assured that all their attention will be on your event. Another great thing about the Vancouver Golf Club is that it is close to a few hotels, your out-of-town guests will really appreciate that! As for photo spots, they have beautiful gardens available or if you want a more modern setting, SFU is just a 15 minute drive away.

The Vancouver Golf Club can host your ceremonies too! They have a large patio overlooking the golf course where they hold their outdoor ceremonies. Should the weather not cooperate on your big day, you can rent a tent or move the ceremony indoors. They don’t provide chairs for the ceremony but their staff can have some rented for you at a rate of $4 per chair, or you can obtain them yourselves from a different company. Booking a ceremony costs $300 and includes a skirted registry table, setup and teardown, and a 30-minute midweek rehearsal with a wedding coordinator. Unfortunately, ceremonies can’t be booked on its own, so if you decide to have your reception there, it’s a great way to keep everything under one roof.

Food and beverage minimums are also very reasonable and are dependent on the number of guests you have. The minimums for a Saturday or long weekend Sunday from May until end of September are $6,000 for 60-100 guests and $8,000 for 100-150 guests. During non-peak season, the minimums on Saturdays and long weekend Sundays are $2,000 less than the high season rate. It’s a great option if you want to save some money! Their menus are customizable but in general, their 3-course plated dinners start at $37 per person.

Buffet packages start at $40 per person and it goes up to $65 per person, with a Midnight Snack option. Buffet service will be located in a separate room, which I think is nice. It won’t disrupt the ambience of the main dining room. Bookings include all the necessary tables for your reception as well as certain decor items like round mirrors for centerpieces, tealights, easels, table numbers and stands, white linens, napkins and all the necessary dinnerware. Gifts can be held in a secure boardroom, where there is also a tall mirror so it can double as a Bride’s Room.

There are quite a few ways to save with the Vancouver Golf Club. The best way is to have your wedding on a Sunday or any weekday because there are no minimum food and beverage spend amounts. Otherwise, their minimum spend amounts are already very reasonable but if you are willing to have your wedding on a non-peak season Saturday, the minimum spends are cut by $2,000! Booking their venue is a great value in itself for everything that’s included: the private lounge with bar, the patio, the President’s Lounge (aka buffet room), use of podium and microphone, a stage for the head table, and the decor items that I mentioned earlier. A large parking lot is available for you and your guests, free of charge as well! The facility is MP3 player capable. Save on a DJ and plug your MP3 player into their house speakers. If you rent the Deckside Room, they will provide a dance floor for you for free. As for food, all their menus can be customized to better suit your dietary needs or budget. If you’re bringing in cupcakes, the Vancouver Golf Club will waive their $2 per person cake cutting fee!

So what do you think? If you like this location, give Graham Saunders a call at 604-937-4854 or email catering@vancouvergolfclub.com to book a consultation. Keep in mind that they are closed on Mondays and you can only book 1 year in advance of your wedding date.

    Hello!

We are planning our wedding late next year (date has not been confirmed) and wanted to know the current price list. I understand that you may have a different price for summer and for winter, so it would be appreciated if you can provide us with both. We expect to have 80-100 guests.

    Thank you!

    Hi Cassandra

Thanks for reading my post on the Vancouver Golf Club. I do not deal with their bookings, however. You will have to contact them directly at 604-936-3404 or email catering@vancouvergolfclub.com. Please note that their rates may have changed since the posting of my article.

Good luck with the rest of your wedding planning!
