Vancity Vendor: Chairs With Charm

When Natalie Jutras got married 3 years ago, she and her mother, Angela Canti, were bitten by the wedding bug. They loved it so much, they decided to get in the industry themselves. Mother and daughter became business partners and created Chairs With Charm, a company that provides rentals for chair covers, table linens, backdrops as well as floral services.

Their chair cover rentals start at $3.00 per chair for a polyester cover, sash. They also have taffeta wrap chair covers for $3.75 each and spandex chair covers for $4.25 each. All rates include setup and takedown. 90″ tablecloths in white/black are available for $10.50 each. To dress it up a bit you have the option of using table runners (starting at $5.00) or coloured overlays ($12 each). Refer to their website for other items they carry and if you don’t see it there, send them an email to ask because, like the trends, their inventory is changing. To see their latest work or find out more about them, visit their website or be a fan on their Facebook page.

A Few Words With Natalie…

What do you have to offer for brides with lower budgets?
“We have a variety of chair covers that starts at $3.00 and up. When we are doing the center pieces and the budget is lower then we sometimes work with fake flowers which keeps it more affordable.”

What sets you apart from others in the same field?
“I think the one thing that sets us apart is we are a family operated business and each wedding we take on it’s like it’s our own. We take great pride in the services we offer and it shows in our work.”

What do you enjoy most about your job?
“I love seeing a room transform from when we start to when we are done. And for my Mom and I, we also love when the bride is sooo happy with our services. We find happiness in bringing their vision to life.”

What is the easiest way to transform a room?
“The easiest way to transform a room is chair covers. If you budget only has allowance for that I would suggest doing that, they really are a finishing touch to even a simple room.”

How do you stay competitive when it comes to pricing?
“I am always trying to keep our numbers at a competitive are, as well as, looking for lower maintenance products which helps to bring the price down.”

Describe a real life situation when you had to deal with a low budget bride. How did you design her wedding to fit her vision and her budget?
“I had a wedding just in July where they were having quite a bit of people and wanted to have nice centerpieces and everything. But the cost of real flowers is quite hefty for them so I suggested fake flowers and that compensated on the price and they still got a beautiful product. Actually, I set up the night before and people were asking me how the flowers are going to last and I had to tell them they were fake.”

What kind of venue is your favourite to decorate and why?
“I really love to decorate a venue with old historic charm, like a heritage home. I enjoy the architecture and the contrast between the dark woods and the light chair covers. It’s very beautiful when it all done.”

If you had one piece of advice for a bride and groom, what would it be?
“My advice for any bride and groom is that your wedding is just one day, the start of a new life together. I’d tell them not to get consumed by the little things that come with a wedding and when they do get consumed to remind themselves that it’s just one day. Their marriage is a lifetime and that’s the most important part of their wedding.”
