The Brock House Wedding Show Recap - October 21

Just a few days ago, I was able to experience my first ever Brock House Wedding Show… and it didn’t disappoint! The Brock House was full of beautiful floral arrangements, smiling, friendly vendors ready to chat it up with many Vancouver brides, and everywhere you turned, there was a server asking if you’d like some hors d’oeuvres. Perfect! I’d like to start off the recap post with a couple of promo announcements.

At this show, I finally met the very talented Daniela Ciuffa and she’s got a pretty cool promotion happening right now! Book a wedding package by Saturday, November 15th and receive a brand new iPad with all your wedding photos loaded into it. It’s your own digital wedding album. If you’re looking for a great photographer and an iPad is on your radar, this promo kills two birds with one stone… but you gotta book fast! Visit Daniela’s website to see her portfolio and contact her to take advantage of this deal!

Photobooth Vancouver was there too, getting anyone and everyone to take some funny photos… including myself! Did you know that they can customize a photobooth background for you as an added service? If you’ve got something special in mind, they will work with local stylists to create something unique for your event. And if you book by the end of October, 2012, you can get the 4th hour for free! Have a look at their website and blog to see why they are “The Hit of the Party.”

While the show was thin on promotions, it was jam-packed with indulgence, inspiration, and information.

As I mentioned earlier, the Brock House staff were serving up some delicious appetizers and wine, but to get a sweet fix, all you had to do was pay a visit to the show’s wedding cake vendors! I had a mocha Bailey’s cake sample and a macaron with chocolate ganache from Sweet Thea, both of which tasted like heaven.

The Uncommon Cake had a stunning 5-tiered white and gold cake with edible jewels topped with a white bow. They too were giving out samples, I tried the chocolate cake and it was rich and amazing.

I was also glad to see a friend, and also a previous contributor to Vancity Bride, at the show. Harmony Cakes is a new Brock House preferred cake vendor and Jen brought along some of her creations. She also teamed up with Delovely Creative and put together a sweets table set up underneath the fashion show tent. I unfortunately wasn’t able to take photos of the table, chalk it up to its popularity with the hungry crowd!

Indulgence also comes in the form of pampering. Upstairs, brides-to-be were getting glammed for free up by Noir Lash Lounge, Bombay Brow Bar, Mink Makeup & Hair, Hayley Miller (an eco-friendly makeup artist), Blo Dry Bar, and Red Carpet Ready by Christina. There were lots of ladies looking hot after their quick makeovers!

Guests were able to indulge in some sparkly jewelry too, thanks to Jeweliette! Shop owner Madalena Corsi and her daughter, award-winning jewelry designer Elsa Corsi, were on hand greeting brides and showing off their impressive collection. They moved from their Seymour location to Hornby and Helmcken so pop by and say hello and see the jewels for yourself! They will be happy to finish off your bridal look.

There were lavish floral displays wherever you went. First, you were greeted by Granville Island Florist’s explosion of roses on the foyer, as well as a table of bouquets and tall centerpiece ideas.

Flowerz‘ champagne and pink display was jaw-dropping. I’ve never seen Evan’s work in person until now and it definitely is a treat for the eyes.

To cap it off, Halfyard Designs had an autumn inspired table, bursting with orange, yellow and green hues.

Upstairs, DreamGroup Productions and other vendors created 3 differently priced tablescapes. I really love this idea because after seeing so many beautiful weddings in magazines, you never get a sense of how much it all actually costs. Thanks to these displays, brides come out with not only ideas, but also a reality check. Here’s Tablescape #1 (Westcoast DIY)… costing $242.88 per table, with items provided by A&B Party and Event Rentals, Delovely Creative, and Uniquity Invitations.

Tablescape #2 (Asian Fusion Inspired)… costing $373.74 per table, with items provided by A&B Party and Event Rentals, Granville Island Florists, and Inspirasian Creations.

Tablescape #3 (Modern Elegance)… costing $680.82 per table, with items provided by A&B Party and Event Rentals, Flowerz, and Inspirasian Creations.

And of course, let’s not forget the main event of the show… the Fashion Show featuring gorgeous gowns by Vancity Vendor Isabelle’s Bridal and Frocks Modern Bridesmaids, and tuxedos by The Tux Store. What I loved about this fashion show was that it included Mother of the Bride dresses as well as Flower Girl dresses and Ring Bearer tuxes. You can imagine the crowd’s surprise when they saw the little kids walking up the runway looking so adorable! Here’s a peek at a few of the fashions.

Scheduled guest speakers gave mini presentations about their specific craft. I managed to catch Mink Makeup & Hair’s Melanie Tremblay’s little chat about pre-wedding beauty tips.

What other better way can you get helpful information than by talking to the vendors themselves, and there were many to choose from! The Brock House Wedding Show had a great selection of vendors of all types to help complete your special day. It was also a fantastic way to get a self-guided tour of the venue itself and experience their food and service. As you may recall, I’ve featured the Brock House’s 2nd floor before as a great option for budget brides.

It’s no wonder that this wedding show has been running for 22 years… it’s well-run and still ever so popular. If I had one piece of advice to the future bride, get there early and be prepared to stay until the show ends. The house gets packed quickly and there are lots of people to talk to, and things to see and do. 3 hours of my time was definitely not enough. Congrats to Geneve and Sarah at DreamGroup for pulling off yet another successful show! Looking forward to #23!
