A Dress For Every Story

Bid to Benefit: A Dress For Every Story

What if I told you you can buy a formal dress for your next event and make a difference in someone else’s life at the same time? You’ll want to read on and find out more about the Bid to Benefit online event that the Surrey Women’s Centre is holding in just a couple of days.

Bid to Benefit: A Dress For Every Story

Bid to Benefit: A Dress For Every Story From July 18th until July 28th, 2014, you will be able to bid on over 150 brand new designer (Michael Kors, Monique LHuillier, etc.) dresses in various sizes (0-20) in an online auction. These dresses were donated to the Surrey Women’s Centre by a bridal shop that closed down and soon they will be sold to the highest bidder with proceeds going on to benefit the Surrey Mobile Assault Response Team (SMART). They help women who have experienced domestic violence or sexual assault by providing the only 24-hour emergency mobile response in the Fraser Region, serving 15 municipalities from Burnaby to Boston Bar. SMART Team members accompany survivors of violence to the hospital where women receive critical medical treatment, and in some cases, forensic evidence will be collected to aid in the investigation and prosecution of an assault. The dresses that you see in the photos are part of the auction… aren’t they gorgeous? They would make wonderful bridesmaid dresses or mother of the bride dresses! Check out their promo video here for a sneak peek of what this event is about…

Here’s the auction link – keep an eye on it, the dresses will appear on Friday when the auction goes live! If you’re not interested in buying a dress, but you still want to help, you can donate here and help them get to their goal of $20,000! Here’s what your money goes towards…

$10 – One comfort package, which is designed to provide survivors of violence with some of the comforts of home following medical treatment or as they transition to a safe space.

$20 – One hour of support on the 24 hour crisis line with a specially trained support worker.

$30 – One hour of one-on-one counselling for one woman.

$40 – Two hours of additional crisis support beyond the emergency room. We help women create personalized safety plans, provide information about legal options and other community services, and help women to access safe shelter, emergency food and income assistance.

$50 – One hour of group counselling for up to 10 women.

$100 – Provides four women with emergency transportation to hospital immediately following an assault.
