This week’s Vancity Vendor beautifies brides for a living. Meet Chrissy Lambert, a mobile makeup artist based in Metro Vancouver. As a child she has always loved to paint and colour. After stumbling upon a makeup artistry book, she realized how similar it was to her favourite pastime. She eventually decided to pursue what she had loved to do by taking the full diploma course at Blanche MacDonald. By 2003, she graduated and has been doing makeup ever since. Her company, Makeup Infusion was created 4 years later, where she provides mobile makeup services for weddings, headshots, photoshoots, graduations, and even provides makeup lessons.

Bridal makeup application costs $125 and includes a trial/pre-wedding consultation. For the rest of the ladies in the bridal party, she charges $75 per person but offers a discount for a group of 5 or more. Be sure to keep an eye out for her at wedding shows because she usually offers promotional prices to those who attend. Keep up to date with her latest work by following her on Twitter or Facebook.

A Few Words With Chrissy…

What brands of products do you use and why did you choose them?
“I use a variety of products in my kit, picking and choosing my favorites. Each line of makeup has some products that are better than others. I choose through a personal trial basis, as well as from recommendationsfrom other makeup artists or professionals.”

What should your clients expect when they have their bridal consultation with you?
“During the consultation, I ask a lot of questions to try and understand what the bride is looking for. I often ask her how she pictures herself on her wedding day. What word or image comes to mind, i.e. romance, drama, ethereal, etc? If she has no idea, we discuss what she would wear (makeup) on a day to day basis to make sure we don’t stray too far from where she is comfortable. During the consultation is the time where I work towards achieving the ideal image she has for herself and I encourage and expect honest feedback. I’m there to make her feel like herself, but enhanced, not to impose how I think she should look. When I leave, the bride is happy and if she later feels that something is not quite ‘right,’ I encourage a phone call or email to let me know how I can make it better.”

What do you have to offer for brides with lower budgets?
“When there are four or more people in total in a bridal party, I will discount the per person price. The more people there are, the less the price. I do not charge additional travel fees. If someone would prefer me to use their own products on them, I would offer a discounted price for me to apply that makeup.

What sets you apart from others in the same field?
“The makeup that I apply is very natural, fresh and classic. I am not there to impose my own ideas on the bride. I want her to be comfortable and happy and I bring a calm, fun vibe to the wedding day. When you choose your ‘team,’ aka photographer, hair stylist, makeup artist, etc, you are surrounding yourself with people that should contribute to the happy mood that you want on your wedding day. They help set the tone for what may be the most important day of your life.”

What do you enjoy most about your job?
“Although makeup is superficial and surface level to some people, I love the way a woman will light up and appear more confident when she sees herself after a makeup application. It’s a small thing, but I love the transformative power of makeup. I also enjoy teaching people simple makeup tips that make their day to day routines just a touch easier.”

If you had one piece of advice for a bride and groom, what would it be?
“Don’t forget to take moments throughout your wedding day to stop and appreciate the love and support from your family and friends. They’ve come together to celebrate you!”
