Vancity Vendor: Thyme to Indulge Catering & Bistro

Paula & Magavon Toby make a great team, at home and at work. Magavon is a chef, passionate about playing with different flavours and creating menus that tantalized taste buds. Paula has a marketing background, a natural planner with experience in coordinating events, even those with guestlists as large as 3,000! Both have been working in the hospitality industry for 15 years; it’s pretty obvious that providing great customer service is high on their priority list. One day, they decided to combine their very different yet complementary skills and opened up a new business venture, one that proved to be quite a success.

Thyme to Indulge Catering & Bistro is located on Main near 13th Avenue, just a couple blocks north of Heritage Hall. They are a boutique full service catering company, which means they can take care of rentals, staffing, full bar service, and of course customizing a menu of delicious food to fit your event. They also offer affordable wedding planning services as an add-on for their catering clients so you can have a seamless and stress-free day. All their ingredients are sourced locally and all their menus reflect what is in season to guarantee freshness and quality. Thyme to Indulge can cater to any dietary request, from vegetarian to gluten-free to any religious restrictions. Stop by their cute little bistro on Main Street to see what they are all about. They serve brunch on weekends and it’s quite a popular spot so you’ll have to get there early. When I went, I tried “The Benedict” and I loved it. I was also intrigued by their Wild Berry Pancake Bombs so I’ll have to try them when I go back!  If you want to find out more about them, visit their website, be a fan on Facebook and follow them on Twitter.

A Few Words With Paula…

Thyme to Indulge Catering & Bistro What do you have to offer for brides with lower budgets?
“We work very closely with each of our couples to find a menu that suits them based on their palette, theme and overall budget. It is important that we don’t compromise quality or taste for the sake of budget, rather offer options and advice based on our experience that ensure expectations and budgets are met without making sacrifices.”

What sets you apart from others in the same field?
“Because we are boutique, we stay small and true to ourselves. We only book one wedding per day, which means the key senior team are present at every event we do, including the executive chef. Fundamentally, we believe that we are only as good as our last event. Word of mouth is an important revenue generator for us and we never take our success for granted.”

Thyme to Indulge Catering & Bistro Do you accommodate ethnic food requests as well?
“If couples come to us with specific requests, we will happily create a customized menu. In fact our team of chefs represent a mixture of different ethnicities, hailing from the Caribbean, England, France and Taiwan as well as Canada and everyone enjoys being involved in menu creation.”

Why did you choose to offer additional day of coordination services to your clients?
“We chose it as an added value to our clients to ensure that the day runs seamlessly and we have a team of experienced event planners on board. It makes sense to have key roles performed by the same team so, rather than having to manage different vendors, you can use one capable vendor who can do it all at a fraction of the cost.”

What do you enjoy most about your job?
“It would have to be the satisfaction of working closely with a client to ensure that their vision is executed beyond their expectations and that they have an everlasting memory from their event.”

If you had one piece of advice for a bride and groom, what would it be?
“Have fun planning your wedding! It shouldn’t be a stressful experience and this can be achieved with the help of finding the right vendors to work with, who you trust and have confidence in.”
