The Pop Up Wedding Shoppe: Jan. 11 - Feb. 14, 2016

It’s the third year in a row for the Pop Up Wedding Shoppe and they’re back downtown, this time on the corner of Georgia and Jervis.

I’m a big fan of this concept. With the rise in popularity of pop-up shops, it’s only natural to have one for weddings as well. Couples can walk into the shop, meet a variety of wedding vendors, get a close look at their products, and most importantly, get their questions answered. This time they’re open for a little over a month and have a rotating schedule of featured wedding planners and photographers, in addition to the usual mainstays. You can see the list of vendors and their schedules on their website here. I went there on my lunch break last week and here’s what I saw.

Patty Nayel, bridal gown designer and owner of Pure Magnolia, is the driving force behind this. Her dresses are available at the shop to try on and order (be sure to ask about the floral dresses from her new collection - they are fabulous). A few other bridal lines are available to try on as well, just look through the racks and see what you could find.

There is also a table designed by the feature wedding planner of the week. This colourful design is by Luxe Events. This will change depending on the next wedding planner so check out the vendor list to see who’s up next. Same goes for the photographer corner. Here is the Butter Studios display and I also got a chance to catch up with both Chris and Gina Chong. Chris was at the shop in the afternoon so we had a nice chat and Gina led a workshop on how to do The Perfect Pose later that evening.

I learned so much from Gina’s workshop. It was also the first time I learned about squinching. Lol! With Gina’s tips, we’re now red carpet ready! There are more workshops scheduled for the rest of the Pop Up Wedding Shoppe, check the schedule here and register for your favourite class.

You can find a lot of other items at the shop including mason jars and accessories from The Jar Girl, including jars available for rent. Stationery designers Stationery Bike Designs and Fox and Fancy were also showcasing their wedding work, but also fun things like notepads and notebooks. They make great gifts or just a little something for yourself. They also have gorgeous shoes from Lord’s Shoes, wooden cufflinks and earrings by Cabin + Cub, and boxes and other gift items from The Good Oak and Giving Gifts. You can also give Vancouver Photobooth a try, they have 2 styles of photobooths available for you to strike a pose at. There are so many more vendors, which I may have missed, but you can always check their wall of wedding vendors and grab a card from one of the shop’s featured vendors.
