Real Vancity Brides: Darcy's DIY Invitations

Real Vancity Bride Darcy Wintonyk and I are friends and colleagues and she’s getting married to the love of her life this summer. She recently made her own wedding invitations for cheap and was so excited to share with me and my readers how she did them. Here it is, in her own words.

Why I chose to do it myself

Darcy's invitations After getting engaged I browsed literally hundreds of bridal invitation suites online and didn’t really fall in love with any.  Plus, even the plainest ones worked out to be hundreds of dollars. I felt really disappointed always getting the “wedding price” for things.

I came across some really great free templates on a blog called The Wedding Chicks, and found one I loved with bunting. We’re getting married at Charleson Park in Vancouver and plan to fly yellow and blue bunting from the trees so it seemed perfect.

You can also do matching save the dates, RSVP cards, table numbers and escort cards.

Putting it together was SO EASY.  You literally just plug in your details like names, date and venue into the template and it exports a JPG photo into your computer that you can get printed off. And it looked fantastic.  From there I put it on a zip drive and took it to Staples.  50 invitations (what I needed for my 140 person fete) cost $21!  I went to Michaels and purchased matching envelopes and a really cute stamp for another $19.  So in essence I made my own bridal suite for a total of $40.  And it feels so good knowing that I did it myself!

Thanks for sharing your experience, Darcy! Hope this inspires other readers to create their own invitations as well. I did my own before as well and felt amazing after accomplishing such a project.
