DJ Krista DJ Krista is relatively new to the wedding scene but she brings passion and energy to the party. She is no stranger to weddings and events though, having worked as a bartender and banquet server for a while. She loved working weddings and the world of event entertainment so she decided to make a move and gained much needed experience with a local DJ company, until she eventually branched out and created her own identity.

DJ Krista is proud to be one of the only queer female wedding DJ’s in Metro Vancouver and is eager to work with any couple’s musical tastes to ensure that they and their guests will be on the dance floor all night. Her packages and rates are custom designed to suit each event, no matter how large or small, with prices starting at $600.

A Few Words With DJ Krista…

What do you have to offer for brides with lower budgets?
“I offer them the same great service as brides with higher budgets! I also understand that weddings can be expensive and I can work with you to build a night that works within that.”

DJ Krista What sets you apart from others in the same field?
“The defining factor that sets me apart from other DJ’s is that I don’t have an ego and I will play and cater the night to however the couple wants it, and not what works in my set. This is your night, not mine!”

What do you enjoy most about your job?
“I enjoy playing music (believe it or not) I consider it a challenge to make sure everyone gets up dancing!”

Describe how a consultation with a bride and groom goes. How do you determine which music to play for them?
“A consultation with the bride and groom, bride and bride or groom and groom, means a coffee in person, a skype call or a phone call. I get to know who they are individually as well as who they are as a couple. I can help figure out their entrance and dance songs, as well as offer suggestions for the layout of the night. I determine what music to play for them from that consultation as well as from my song request sheet, which is emailed out, to them after booking.”

What’s the best way to liven up a crowd? Which songs usually get the guests up and dancing?
“The best way to liven up a crowd is switch up the music, clearly whatever you are playing is not working. Usually I like to hit them with an old school feel good beat such as Hypnotize by Biggie or Wannabe by Spice Girls. Or something that people can sing along to like Shout.”

Hiring a DJ can be considered a luxury, especially for brides on a budget. Why do you think budget brides should book a DJ anyway?
“Oh so many reasons! The DJ handles the rest of the night after dinner, he or she manages all the audio for speeches as well as facilitates the flower toss, garter toss and first dances. They are the point of focus for the rest of the night. Most people can dance to another person, it is hard to dance to an ipod plugged into the wall. I can also manage all your drunk friends and prevent them from playing one song over and over. DJ’s read the crowd and switch up the music when appropriate, good djs will also make sure the flow of one song to the next is smooth and seamless to make sure the party never stops.”

If you had one piece of advice for a couple, what would it be?
“Be flexible with your schedule on the night of your wedding, things always seem to run longer than planned for. One of the perks of having a DJ is that they can be at-the-ready whenever you want to announce cake cutting, flower toss and first dances.”
