Vancity Vendor: Andrea Walker Photography

Andrea Walker Andrea Walker’s love for photography started in high school. Film photography was her obsession and she spent a good chunk of her time in the dark room. Her hobby kind of got away from her as she grew up but 5 years ago, she decided it was time to bring it back into her life. She is now a graphic designer and photographer who runs her own boutique agency and photography business.

Andrea Walker Photography offers wedding photography, business editorial photography and special event photography. Andrea also loves horses and enjoys photographing equestrian events as well. Wedding packages start at $1,200 and include an engagement session and digital files. She also tries to make it to the wedding rehearsal as well so clients can coordinate that with her. Andrea is a big advocate for quality prints and products which she orders from a professional shop in Alberta, but she is also conscientious of her couples’ budgets and will be able to find a solution that suit their needs. Although she is based out in Mission, she is more than happy to travel for consultations. Find out more about Andrea by visiting her social media pages:

A Few Words With Andrea…

Andrea Walker Photography What sets you apart from others in the same field? How would you describe your shooting and photo editing style?
“Since I don’t shoot weddings every weekend, I’m able to completely dedicate myself creatively to the ones that I do shoot. I’m fully invested. I tend to shoot a mix of photojournalistic/editorial. I love to capture moments candidly, but I also like to create epic photographs with my own lighting- and I mix the two styles  in every wedding that i shoot. I work to create the look I want in camera, and use editing for touch-ups, but when I’m shooting a highly styled wedding with a theme such as vintage or rustic,  I will create  unique edited looks that compliment the style.”

What do you enjoy most about your job?
“The best part about shooting weddings, or any other photography that involves people  is the connecting with those  people. Second best is producing artistic work that makes those people say wow!

Andrea Walker Photography What was the most creative shot you took and how did you come up with it?
“I think that the single most important aspect of any photograph is mood.  When I’m reviewing my work from a session or an event,  I’m looking for photographs that evoke feeling or emotion.  I love to create mood and drama with light.”

Which part of the wedding is your most favourite to shoot and why?
“My favourite part of a wedding day is working with the bride and groom to create unique and epic photographs that they will look back on 20 years from now and still think they are cool. Creating awesome photos is really collaborative work with the Bride and Groom. I love this shot because  everything came together so well, the car, the style, the lighting  and the mysterious expression of the bride.”

Where is your favourite place/part of the city to take pictures for a shoot?
“I’m not super stuck with any particular location- give me one and I’ll make it work. But I do have a soft spot for Whonnock lake in Maple Ridge-  it has such variety in a small area that we can create lots of different images.”

Do you draw inspiration from other photographers?
“Commercial and advertising photography is always a source of inspiration. I like to figure  out how I can quickly and easily create magazine quality images for everyday clients. I also love CreativeLive to learn and grow my craft,  and right now I’m digging  the work of wedding photo guru Jerry Ghionis,  as well as  the edgy light of  commercial photographer Joel Grimes and the fashion work of Lara Jade.”

Tell me about your photobooth services, what is a package like, and what makes you unique from other companies?
“Our photobooth  is essentially a studio that we bring to your event and manned by one of my assistants. Included is custom  cards that we distribute to tell  guests where to  access the gallery and download their free images. It’s been a great hit.”

If you had one piece of advice for a bride and groom, what would it be?
“The one piece of advice I’d like to give Brides and Grooms is to relax and enjoy. The more you do, the more awesome photos your photographer can capture.”
