Cora's Photography

Surrey-based shutterbug Cora Henderson has been interested in photography all her life, but it wasn’t until an opportunity came to second shoot a wedding, where she discovered her love for wedding photography. She prides herself on being a self-taught photographer with an energetic and passionate attitude. It was only a matter of time before she launched her own photography business, and by 2006, Cora’s Photography was created. Since then she has shot over 100 weddings.

Cora provides a variety of services but mainly focus on weddings, maternity and newborn sessions. Wedding packages starts at $2,300 and includes studio editing (post-processing) of all images, a photographer’s assistant, 4×6 prints presented in a stylish and personalized image box, plus all high resolution files on dvd. Customized quotes are also available, just have a chat with Cora to see what she can do for you. Be sure to check out her Facebook page and blog in case any promotions come out.

Cora describes her editing approach as ”fun, bright and classic,” but she also loves to incorporate a textured or vintage look to a select few images to help complete your love story.

A Few Words With Cora…

What sets you apart from others in the same field?
“My personality! I specialize in creative lifestyle portraiture meaning that I blend a little bit of classic portrait style photography and add a modern, natural flair to create images that are fresh, fun and fabulous. Ultimately, I strive to create a relaxed atmosphere so that you will feel comfortable and most importantly have fun in front of the camera!”

What do you enjoy most about your job?
“I adore sharing one of the most amazing days with some of the most amazing people. I really do feel blessed so much of the time. Yes photographing weddings and other moments in people’s lives is a lot of hard work but the connections I have built with my clients are truly priceless. I love when they come back to me time and time again to document more amazing moments and we chatter away like old friends. Amazing!”

What was the most creative shot you took and how did you come up with it?
“I honestly do not think I could choose just one! Each and every wedding I photograph is so unique and has so many amazing opportunities for new and creative images. I think my most creative shots come from the vibe of the couple and the wedding party where I can really having fun showing off their true personalities.”

Which part of the wedding is your most favourite to shoot and why?
“I LOVE the wedding party and bride and groom portraits! I love being able to have fun with the group and really see everyone at their very best.”

Where is your favourite place/part of the city to take pictures for a shoot?
“I have SO many favourites but truly love shooting at Campbell Valley Park. I just love the wide open fields, rustic charm of the barns and wooden fences and the solitude. I am continually finding new spots and new angles!”

Do you draw inspiration from other photographers?
“Definitely! No photographer is an island. We are continually learning and growing when we share our skills and knowledge. Every photographer looks at the same subject just a bit differently and it is enlightening to see how others view the world. I have so many favourites both locally and internationally but when I photograph a wedding, my true inspiration comes from the couple themselves.”

What should your clients expect when they have their first consultation with you?
“The main purpose of the first meeting is to chat about all of the wedding day details as well as what the couple is looking for in a wedding photographer and what is most important to them. It is also the time to discuss the packages offered, time for the client to look through all of my portfolios and sample albums and most importantly, to see how we connect.”

For the techies, what gear do you use?
“Canon 5DMarkii, 50mm 1.4, 100mm 1.2, 24-105mm, 70-300mm plus a variety of other fun toys!”

Do you have a backup plan, if for some reason you aren’t able to photograph the wedding (due to illness or emergency)?
“I have many trusted and professional photographers that I network with who I know would be more than willing to help out if the situation ever arose.”

If you had one piece of advice for a bride and groom, what would it be?
“Relax and have fun!! So many couples get caught up in the stress of the budget and managing all of the details that the fun and significance of the day can pass you by. Enjoy the moment and remember the true meaning of the day.”
