Denise Lin Photography

Photography came naturally to Denise Lin. Art has always been a part of her life and her love for colours and shapes inspired her to create her own art, by capturing life’s precious memories. Denise has been practicing photography for the last few years and fell into the wedding industry within the last two. She’s a self-taught photographer but also learns from her peers and by attending events such as the WPPI Conference in Las Vegas, where she says she gained new techniques and a global insight into the photography industry.

Denise Lin Photography focuses on wedding and lifestyle photoshoots. Her base package costs $1,799 and includes 6 hours of coverage, an engagement session, engagement photo cards, online gallery, all hi-res images on disc and a “Wedding Central” website to put in your wedding details. A second photographer is not included but if you avail of her 8 or 10 hour package, it is included. Keep tabs on Denise by liking her Facebook page and following her on Twitter. You never know, maybe she’ll be having a promo!

Clients are encouraged to have a consultation with Denise first to ensure that there is a natural connection and mutual understanding of each other’s visions for the wedding day. It is a chance to get to know her and her work, and for clients to be able to ask questions about the entire process.

A Few Words With Denise…

What do you have to offer for brides with lower budgets?
“Denise Lin Photography offers extra service with free of charge for couples. For example, the couples do not have to order their gift cards for their guests. In addition, a modern and vogue style flash website will be made for them; which makes their wedding theme stand out and it saves the couple time on making their own site. In some other collections, I could also offer hard-cover albums, which will save couples money on album printing.”

What sets you apart from others in the same field?
“Be creative, be simple and be you! I have a natural eye for redefining beauty in objects, the environment and people.  I am able to bring out the hidden essence in people, places and objects: beauty, joy, and love. People are often surprised and delighted when they see how the most unexpected captures come to life! I encourage my clients to have fun during the photo shoot. I welcome any ideas on the engagement session; themed and conceptual photo shoot is always my favourite. At the same time, I like to design; I could create the couple’s wedding website. They can ask her about their wedding theme and wedding logo in their first consultation meeting.”

What do you enjoy most about your job?
“Experiencing the connection with my clients through our conversations and the photo shoot. Therefore, I enjoy also capturing the connection shared between people!”

What was the most creative shot you took and how did you come up with it?
“I like the combination of movement and shapes in this photo. When the wind started to blow, I expected the hair to swirl. Ready, I clicked the proud shot. I believe that creativity can’t be always set up or forced. Creativity is all around us.”

Which part of the wedding is your most favourite to shoot and why?
“The details of the environment and people as the bride is getting ready for her big day. When the bride first put the wedding gown on, she is the most beautiful person in the world. Lots of elegant and artistic shots can be done when the bride is getting ready. The detailed shots of the rings, bouquets, shoes, dresses are my favourite part as well because they are in harmony with the theme of the wedding.”

Where is your favourite place/part of the city to take pictures for a shoot?
“I don’t have a favourite place as I believe that the people bring out the beauty of the place. Every couple brings a unique energy to the space. I have taken lots of photos like most photogs do in these following places, such as Granville Island, Gastown, Coal Harbour, Stanley Park, Beach, QE park, Britannia Shipyard and so on. I still love these locations! Usually, I suggest parks and lakes; however, I always love to scout for new locations.”

Do you draw inspiration from other photographers?
“Yes, all the time! I admire lots of talented photographers of various genres and cultures; their work inspires me all the time! I am inspired by the diversity found in the photography of many different photographers- from high fashion, to editorial, to journalism, to conceptual and wedding and portraits. After attending the workshop from WPPI in Las Vegas, I definitely admire some aspiring photographers like, Bambi Cantrell, Jerry Ghionis, Cliff Mautner and the list can go on and on.”

How would you describe your photo editing style?
“Innovative in composition, natural, fresh, clean, soft but bright in lighting.”

What gear do you use?
“I use Canon! For my clients’ wedding day, I usually carry two cameras, 7D and 5D MarkII.”

Do you have plans on expanding your services?
“Yes, definitely! I already offer boudoir marathons, creative and themed engagement photo shoot, and creative baby shoots. Products vary from wedding sites, albums, books, canvasses, image blocks, to engagement photo cards. Clients who book Denise Lin as their wedding photographer will also receive a discount on ordering other products.”

If you had one piece of advice for a bride and groom, what would it be?
“Most brides and grooms are stressed on their big day, so it is important for them to work with an understanding photographer, and who is comfortable to talk to.”
