Vancity Vendor: Erica Miller Photography

Photography is in Erica Miller’s blood. Her father was a photographer and became an inspiration for her as she was growing up. With a hot pink camera in hand, she learned from her dad and grew to love everything the art of photography had to offer. She’s a people person and loves nothing more than being able to share in and contribute to one of the most important days of their lives. Erica is a woman of many talents, too. You may recognize her as one half (the fabulous half ;) ) of Young, Hip & Married, so not only is she a photographer, she is also a marriage and relationship coach.

Erica Miller Photography has been offering portrait and wedding photography for the last 3 years. In addition to that she also does maternity, newborn, boudoir, and commercial photography… Her true love though, aside from her husband Shawn, is weddings! Her base package is $1,800 and includes 6 hours of coverage, 200 proofs in an online, password protected gallery that you can share with family & friends, as well as a custom created Coffee Table Book that is a flush mount album with thick lay-flat pages. Avail of her full package for $2,400 and you get an extra photographer plus a disk of 200 edited proofs so you can print your own. She loves bright and vivid colours when she edits her photos, or will sometimes add a retro or vintage flair to them. During your first consultation with her, she says she will get to know you as a couple and answer all your questions while keeping it fun, lighthearted, and professional. Get updates from her Facebook page and blog, or even follow her on Twitter.

A Few Words With Erica…

What do you have to offer for brides with lower budgets?
“I custom-create wedding packages to suit brides needs and wants. This is THEIR day and I want to make sure that I give them exactly what they want. So, as a bride, please contact me with your budget and what you are looking for and I will do my best to accommodate you, even if it is lower than where my base package starts.”

What sets you apart from others in the same field?
“I have the ability to help people feel at ease, comfortable and have some fun and laughs while having their photograph taken. It is a day of celebration, so let’s celebrate! Whoo hoo!”

What do you enjoy most about your job?
“I love the whole experience. Meeting and working with fabulous people who totally inspire me while capturing each and every moment. It truly is an honor to share in their day and love.”

What was the most creative shot you took and how did you come up with it?
“I was able to get a very shy groom to unbutton his shirt and had his fiancé rub his stomach. I was super pumped that I was able to get the shot! Twoot twoot!”

Which part of the wedding is your most favourite to shoot and why?
“I love the moment when the bride and groom first see each other as she walks down the aisle to her man.”

Do you draw inspiration from other photographers?
“Absolutely! There are so many fantastic photographers out there that inspire me to be more creative and think way outside of the box! There is an awesome community of them in the lower mainland. A few of my closest friends are photographers as well, so it is always fun to experiment together.”

For the techies, what gear do you use?
“I am a Canon girl! Have been for the last 8 years and would say two of my favourite lenses to use are my 50mm 1.4 and 24mm.”

If you had one piece of advice for a bride and groom, what would it be?
“I would definitely say to make sure you gel with your photographer and feel comfortable with them. With this relationship, you can express all of your expectations, so that your photographer can be sure to meet them, and hopefully exceed them!”
