A Few Words With Kendra & Brad…

What do you have to offer for brides with lower budgets?
“We offer eco-friendly albums, which are more economical for brides on a budget. Because they do not contain leathers or require flush mounting they are substantially less than traditional flush mounted albums. We also do not require clients to purchase every digital file – everyone has the option of just choosing their favourites, so they don’t spend money on things they don’t want.”

What sets you apart from others in the same field?
“Our goal has always been to create a custom piece of art our of each love story. We’re not the type of photographers who shoot pretty pictures in front of pretty flowers just because it’s easy. You’ll often find us hiking through the woods or up a mountain to create the most stunning work of art we can for our couples. We want each of our clients walk away with something they are excited and proud of to hang on their walls. In addition to that we strive to keep our company as green as possible. We do this by doing majority of our business online to avoid excess paperwork, only use recycled papers to do what printing we need to do, use only rechargeable batteries and use a green lab for some of our printing.”

How would you describe your shooting and photo editing style?
“Our shooting style is pretty relaxed. We like to joke and laugh a lot and our clients always tell us that they have a lot of fun with us while we are shooting – being in front of the camera is stressful enough for a lot of people, we try to make the experience and enjoyable as possible.  We find we get a lot more natural poses and smiles that way. We always look for the most interesting vantage points to tell stories, when you combine a great composition with a natural laugh you always get gold. Our editing style is pretty clean for the most part, but it really depends on the mood of a particular image. Sometimes the moment we are shooting is very dreamy or romantic and our shooting/editing style will reflect that.”

What do you enjoy most about your job?
“We never go to the office and have a bad day. We go to work and shoot what is easily one of the happiest days in a couple’s life and relationship together. If that doesn’t make you smile I don’t know what will!”

Love Tree Photography What was the most creative shot you took and how did you come up with it?
“Divulge our secret lighting techniques? We can’t go doing that now! We recently won an award for an image we shot of the first dance at a wedding. Like I mentioned before we always keep our eyes open for interesting vantage points. I walked past a glass table and saw Brad’s reflection in it as he was setting up some lights. I thought I’m definitely going to shoot a more creative first dance picture from here while Brad shoots something clean and safer just in case it doesn’t work out! Our best pictures always come from situations where we face a challenge or take a risk”

Which part of the wedding is your most favourite to shoot and why?
“Our favourite part of the day to shoot is probably portraits – it’s the part of the day where we get to be the most creative, and those are usually the images our clients hang on their walls.”

Where is your favourite place/part of the city to take pictures for a shoot?
“We love the great outdoors. Rain or shine, summer or winter Vancouver is a beautiful city. There are unlimited mountains, lakes, ocean shoreline and forests to shoot in. We love them all!”

Love Tree Photography If you had one piece of advice for a bride and groom, what would it be?
“Consider an unplugged wedding. This past year especially we’ve seen a lot of wedding guests wreck a lot of great shots by getting in the way to get an iPhone picture. We see friends texting through ceremonies, and checking their Facebook instead of socializing through dinner. Guests are busy instagramming décor instead of hitting the dance floor. It’s sad to see so many guests disconnected from such a special and intimate event. Even more frustrating is seeing guests get out of their seat in the middle of the ceremony to catch a first kiss with their cell phone and wreck a shot we’ve been setting up for and anticipating, or blowing out a shot of the cake cutting because their flash fires at the same time as ours. This year we’ve had overzealous wedding guests get in our way in all but a couple of weddings, so we’re urging all of our couples to ask their friends and family to put away their phones, and enjoy the festivities while they are happening because they can enjoy the pictures we take later when everything is on the couple’s online gallery.”
