Vancity Vendor: Memento Films

Oleg Solodchenko’s love for filming started in 2004. He was an actor for many years and began experimenting with his theater troupe by incorporating video elements to their live performances. He loved the long days of shooting, long nights of editing, and the reward in the form of many short films was very gratifying. He decided to pursue this full time and with some friends, they formed Memento Films. They are a new face in the Vancouver wedding industry, having only shot their first wedding in March of last year, but they love it and can’t wait to be a part of many Vancouver couples’ special days.

Memento Films’ starter package starts at $1,500 and includes 6 hours of coverage, 2 cinematographers, professional mics and gear, as well as a short highlight film. Engagement or lifestyle films and Same Day Edits are also available at an added cost. Expect your wedding videos to be completed within 4 weeks of the wedding day (unless otherwise noted) and will come in the form of Blu-Ray, DVD, a digital copy on a USB key, whatever you need. If you’d like to get to know them a little better and see their portfolio, check out their website, be a fan on Facebook, or set up an appointment to find out face to face if they are the right videographers for you.

A Few Words With Oleg…

What do you have to offer for brides with lower budgets? Do you have any package deals?
“Our lowest priced package is $1500 and that would be the cheapest alternative. $1500, $2500, $3000 are our packages which can all be customized to each clients need.”

How would you describe your shooting and editing style?
“We work discreetly in a ‘fly on the wall” style with a focus on fun and creativity rather than formality. We shoot and edit cinematically.”

What does a typical wedding video look like?
“I am not totally sure how to address this question as we try to make each wedding film deliver a heartfelt story about each individual couple. We try to showcase their personalities, hobbies and what really makes them, THEM, in our films.”

What sets you apart from others in the same field?
“We are very personal and our pre-production process sets us apart from others. We are not just there to film the happenings, but we are there to make a film about the couple and how special they are. Our prices are also very competitive for the quality/service you get.”

What is your all-time favorite video you’ve shot and edited and why?
I have two at this point, the Nicole & Brad and Camila & Greg wedding films. Both films show their personalities and what kind of people they are as a couple and what they mean to their friends. I love when the couples and friends really open up and let their emotions/experiences lead the way.”

Are you inspired by certain filmmakers or directors?
“I find inspiration from all sorts of videos, they do not have to be famous or popular, just random films that have particular angles, look or style that help me get inspired and creative.”

What do you enjoy most about your job?
“Meeting new people and learning their stories and being able to create short films about them.”

If you had one piece of advice for a bride and groom, what would it be?
