Vancity Vendor: Richard Giordano Photography

Richard Giordano has been dabbling in photography for as long as he can remember. When he was in high school, he took night courses in photography at a local college. He was the only teenager in a room full of 30 year olds. Years later, photography was more like a hobby until his wife convinced him to buy a DSLR in time for his big trip to Japan. It was a great decision because that’s when he realized that photography meant more to him than he thought.

A Few Words With Richard…

Richard Giordano Photography What do you have to offer for brides with lower budgets?
“I am very flexible with my wedding commissions.  For brides with lower budgets I can customize the number of hours to suit her budget while still capturing the essential moments of the day.  My package includes as many post-processed images as possible from the day so the bride doesn’t have to just choose her favourites, she gets all of them.  I can work with the bride when the budget allows to make prints, canvases, or books.”

What sets you apart from others in the same field?
“What sets me apart from others in the same field?  This is a 24/7 deal for me.  When I’m not shooting weddings I’m editing photos, taking further continuing education, looking at other photographers for inspiration, talking to other local photographers, or assisting those photographers on their own projects.  Your wedding day is about you and I prepare as much as possible to make sure it gets captured as good as possible.  I guess you could say that I’m obsessed.  This will always work out in my client’s favour.”

What do you enjoy most about your job?
“The thing I enjoy most about my job is the people I get to meet along the way.  They let me into their lives with my camera and allow me to be a part of one of their most memorable days together.”

What was the most creative shot you took and how did you come up with it?
“One of the more creative photos I’ve taken recently was the spur of the moment use of an iPhone to light paint the word ‘love’ in front of the bride and groom.”

Which part of the wedding is your most favourite to shoot and why?
“My favourite part of a wedding to shoot is the creatives. The bride and groom get a chance to relax together as husband and wife and I’m fortunate enough to capture this. I usually give enough input so they know what to do in front of the camera, but not so much to feel or look posed. This is also an opportunity for the bridal party to congratulate the bride and groom in a semi-private environment.”

Where is your favourite place/part of the city to take pictures for a shoot?
“One of my new favourite locations is the pier at Lonsdale Quay.  Deep Cove and Stanley park are also great options to have ocean and forest backgrounds without being too far from the city.”

If you had one piece of advice for a bride and groom, what would it be?
“My general piece of advice for a bride and groom is to plan ahead so that you’re able to relax on your wedding day. Put the itinerary in everyone else’s hands and assign someone else to deal with any small problems that arise on the day. It’s your day so enjoy it!”
