A Few Words With Nomo…

Why did you want to become a wedding photographer?
“I wanted to become a wedding photographer because I love capturing love between two people.  Not only do I get to capture that moment, I get to capture a picture that will last them a lifetime and bring them back to the very moment every time they look at the photo.  Weddings is one of the biggest milestone in someones life, and I am a hopeless romantic, and I love all that mushy stuff :)

What do you have to offer for brides with lower budgets?
“I offer 4 packages.  The reason why I offer 4 packages is so the bride and groom have a good selection based on there budget.  The higher budget couples will most likely go for the highest package, but the lower ones have a selection of 3 more all decently priced.”

Vancity Vendor: Simply Sweet Photography by Nomo Akisawa What sets you apart from others in the same field?
“I like to think that I have a very distinct style that I have always strived for and I have finally achieved.  I want to stand out, I want to be different.  I want people to be able to pick out my photo out several other photographers without the watermark, and know that I took it.  I want clients to be able to look at my photos and say WOW, there is something about that photo that makes you feel like your there.  Also – I LOVE photography.  I LOVE it with a passion.  At the end of the day, even if I didn’t even make money doing it – I would still be shooting away for free.”

How would you describe your shooting and photo editing style?
“I try to keep my editing as natural as possible.  If you take a look at my raw photos and place it next to the edited Vancity Vendor: Simply Sweet Photography by Nomo Akisawa version, most of the time the only difference you will see is exposure and a colour boost.  I keep it really simple.  I don’t go for the “fake” skin look.  That is really important to me.  I am always very aware of lighting and do my best to make skin look flawless out of the camera and how I position my subjects.  Very little airbrushing is done on the skin through editing software.”

What do you enjoy most about your job?
“I wake up every single day loving and enjoying what I do.  I have worked a lot of jobs where I wake up, not enjoying it.  Another favourite part is having a client love the photos you take for them and have the pictures bring them to tears.”

Which part of the wedding is your most favourite to shoot and why?
“Oooh that is a hard one.  It is a toss up between the ceremony and the formals.  I love the formals because — uhmm who doesn’t like to shoot formals? And I love shooting the ceremony for one part mainly.  The part where the stunning bride is walking down the isle with a huge smile and tears, and I’m able to turn around quickly and also capture the emotion on the grooms face.  Those are definitely my two favourite pictures to capture.”

Vancity Vendor: Simply Sweet Photography by Nomo Akisawa Where is your favourite place/part of the city to take pictures for a shoot?
“I love abandoned barns, or anything vintage and beautiful.”

If you had one piece of advice for a bride and groom, what would it be?
“I offer a complimentary engagement session in all my packages.  They have the option of keeping the engagement session, or adding and hour onto there wedding day if they choose not to have the E-session.  However, the reason why I include an engagement session in all packages is so that the couple and I get the chance to know each other before the day of the wedding.  The E-session also gives them the opportunity to point out anything I can change for the day of there wedding.  In my opinion photos will not be the best until you are comfortable around your photographer.  That is the first thing.  Second, is be in love and show me the love.  I will do my absolutely best to give the couple as much direction as I can, but at the end of the day the best photos are captured when the emotion is raw.  When I catch them laughing, or being silly with each other.  I cannot explain to you enough how amazing those photos turn out to be.  Pick your photographer wisely, and if you are not comfortable around them, I can guarantee you that your photos will not be at its maximum beauty.”
