Vancity Vendor: Vincent + Theo Studios

Vincent + Theo Studios is a Burnaby-based wedding cinematography company that’s just bursting through the Vancouver wedding scene. The team is led by Wade Chan-Kent, whose extreme passion for video was the reason this company came to fruition in the first place. After studying and working with some of the best in the business, Wade has had the privilege to work with a number of Vancouver couples and the bookings keep on coming. He says a lot of effort is poured into each highly personalized wedding video, tailoring them to each of their couples’ unique personalities, while at the same time, capturing the special moments on their big day.

They offer a Feature Film package at $2,499, which includes up to 8 hours of coverage by 2 cinematographers and a 12-20 minute film that documents the couple’s wedding day. 3 DVD copies of your edited videos are included in this package, and if you are selected to appear on their blog, a 2-4 minute Cinema Highlights reel is also included. Upgrades such as a Same Day Edit, additional coverage, blu-ray deliveries, and more are also available at an additional cost. The team uses DSLR cameras in order for them to remain discreet during the event. Clients should expect the finished product approximately 2 months after the event, unless otherwise noted.

A Few Words With Wade…

Why did you choose the name Vincent + Theo?
“A really good friend of mine is fascinated by art history. She actually gave me a book on Vincent Van Gogh many years ago and, after reading it, I was fascinated by the dynamic between Vincent and his lesser-known brother, Theo. When Vincent Van Gogh originally created his works, he was virtually unknown and unrecognized. He only sold but a few paintings. In fact, he even discouraged the few writers that showed any interest in his work. He was suspicious of any signs of success and concerned that early recognition would corrupt him. It was Theo that actually supported his brother during this time, both financially and morally. After Vincent’s death, it was Theo (and later his wife Johanna and their descendents) that dedicated himself to the promotion of his brother’s masterpieces. And it was only over the course of decades that Vincent and his work became famous. It was this fascinating dynamic that caught my attention. The idea that even a genius like Van Gogh can go unrecognized without the hard work, love, support and passion of others. So just like our namesake, our studio is a collection of thoughts, ideas and art, supported by a tremendous network of hard-working, loving and passionate people. And we wouldn’t be who we are without them.”

What do you have to offer for brides with lower budgets? Do you have any package deals?
“For brides with lower budgets, we’d suggest they like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter so that they will always be the first to know whenever we offer any specials. We don’t offer any package deals, although our beautiful Feature Film package really does cater to budget-conscious brides.”

How would you describe your shooting and editing style?
“We pride ourselves on creating thoughtful, authentic films that tell your story, and the story of your wedding day, in a way that you’ll never tire of watching.”

What sets you apart from others in the same field?
“We invest in our couples and we dedicate ourselves to telling their story in a fashion that embodies who they are as people, and as a couple. This allows us to create wedding films for our couples that are incredibly meaningful, generate a powerful emotional response and are exciting for the couple to watch whether it’s the 5th time or the 50th.”

Are you inspired by certain filmmakers or directors?
“Yes, all the time. In everything from commercials and viral videos to indie films and Hollywood blockbusters. One specific director/filmmaker? No. But the incredible thing about the film industry is that there is a never-ending source of inspiration.”

What do you enjoy most about your job?
“Meeting new couples and finding out what makes them…well, them. And then figuring out how to create a film that does justice to the incredible moments they’re going to share with each other on their wedding day.”

Do you have plans on expanding your services?
“Though we specialize in weddings, we are also available for private commissions and commercial projects. We don’t currently plan on expanding beyond these services.”

If you had one piece of advice for a bride and groom, what would it be?
“Let it go, be present, and be yourself. Welcome the emotion with open arms and enjoy what literally will be one of the most amazing days of your life.”
