Vancity Vendor Faves: Summer 2013 Portraits

The 2013 wedding season has come and gone but let’s find out which summer photos were my Vancity Vendors’ favourites! Enjoy!

“Multiple elements come together to create this stunning image. The rich blue color of the sky and water and the dramatic clouds with the amazing dock is what makes this image so beautiful. Grand, expansive, romantic and time standing still are just a few of the words/phrases that come to mind when looking at this image. Sometimes a simple pose with an dramatic backdrop can make for a stellar image!”

“When I found out the location for Tamara and Eric’s wedding, I knew there would be some incredible photo opportunities. Furry Creek Golf Course (close to Squamish), has the beautiful ocean and mountains as its backdrop. The slight breeze on this perfect day was in our favor to lift up the bride’s cathedral veil…. the result, a breathtaking view and special moment between these two lovebirds!”

“Kathleen and Ian had a timeless feel to their wedding which we did our best to recreate in their photos. They asked for classic Vancouver scenes so we took them down a trail into the forest.  Their love and joy is palpable in this moment that Roger caught between them.”

“This is one of our favourite portraits from this summer! Thea and Steven were totally awesome the day of their wedding. We like to push the boundaries whenever we get an opportunity and Thea gave us just that when she wandered into the ocean water getting her dress totally soaked. We immediately knew that we could do something outside of the traditional box and that’s when Sabrina shot this amazing double exposure. It is definitely one of our all time faves.”

This was one of those weddings that you can’t turn down. Not only are the newlyweds loads of fun anyway, but to have the privilege to shoot a lakeside wedding near Harrison Hot Springs, complete with a helicopter ride up the side of a mountain to a secluded location impossible to get to any other way! After the ceremony was over, the bridal party took turns heading up the mountain for an amazing afternoon of photos. This was truly one wedding to remember!

“I love this shot of our bride and groom in the field at Starling Lane Winery in Victoria, BC. This was a special time in the day for the couple as we just finished taking the full wedding party photos and they were about to walk down the aisle. It was a time for them to be alone and have some fun in a place that is meaningful to them both. Plus I love the movement and colour in the image. I love a good wheat field!”

“This is one of my 2013 favourites from a mid-October wedding on top of Grouse Mountain.  The photo was taken shortly after the ceremony and captured a quiet moment with the bride and groom as the sun was setting.   Things were slowing down on the mountain and you could really feel a tranquil energy in the air.  I love how peaceful the bride and groom look in the soft light and the fall colours in the background.”

“This photograph is at Hillside winery in Penticton.  I love this photograph for the grace and contrast of colors.  Michelle’s veil really adds to this photograph as it is so long and elegant.”

“I love this shoot because it was taken at sun down when James and I stole the couple away for some intimate shots. We LOVE golden hour and when I look at this photo I can feel the calm and love between the two of them. They are married and the dinner, speeches and all their hard work was perfect and when they get back it will be time to dance the night away!”

“Boon & Peter celebrated their Wedding Tea Ceremony in their parents backyard in West Vancouver. With a scorching sun, the two escaped into the shade of the trees to steal a kiss.”

“Shawn & Robert chose me to document their Vancouver wedding with their closest family and friends from all over their home state of California and Shawn’s native Edmonton. We had a whirlwind shoot around Gastown before they wed high above the city streets on a penthouse terrace. It was a day filled with so much love and emotion and I still get a little teary when I look at these images.”

“My favourite portrait was taken in an old train museum.  I love the reflection that the hall way was giving off, and the look that the couple is giving each other made this my fav of this year.”

“This is Ksenia & Kevin’s first portrait after the ceremony. I took them aside from all the guests & friends for them to have a quiet moment as newlyweds. I really love the softness of this photo, the lighting was beautiful and it was just the perfect moment for them to celebrate their love. ”

“This photo was taken when the couple did not realize I was taking a shot! I like to tell my couples that I am testing the light while I took the shots. Those moments are always so real and believable!”
