Vancouver Budget Wedding: Melissa + Jason

A vintage woodland themed intimate wedding in Burnaby is the focus of today’s post. On September 18th, 2011, Melissa and Jason said their “I do’s” in front of a intimate group of 40 at the Burnaby Village Museum and continued their celebrations at the nearby Hart House Restaurant. Their wedding cost a modest $11,000, but it was rich with love, happiness, and laughter, despite the event occurring during such a difficult time in the couple’s lives. Their photographer, Melissa Montgomery, explains…

“It was supposed to rain all day, according to the weather report, which on a side note I am completely obsessed with, but it held off. Someone was helping a hand this day. The mix of sun and clouds created the most gorgeous light for this heartfelt wedding.

The planning of their wedding was supposed to be completed long before a week prior to their wedding day, but unfortunate circumstances delayed this process. A recent passing of the bride’s mother was not only shockingly devastating, but Melissa says, her mother would have wanted her to proceed and get married.  A week before their union Melissa booked my services, which isn’t typically how much time I have to prepare for a wedding. Fate, or ‘help from the heavens’ guided us all to come together on this special day and everything fell into place.  For me, the two locations of her choice for venue, the Burnaby Village Museum and the Hart House Restaurant happened to be two locations that I previously shot weddings at.  Also, just a week prior to this day, I photographed three sweet little sisters nearby which is where I got the row boat idea for them.  Like I said, ‘help from the heavens’. Plus we share the same name. What’s meant to be, is meant to be.

The warm vibrations of the harp played as she walked down the aisle to her man. Tears of love and joy were amongst everyone as they became husband and wife. You could feel the high emotions throughout the ceremony and the day.  While her mother was not physically present , you knew she was there, bringing everyone together. Melissa kept saying she was getting ‘help from above’ and her smiles and sweet laughter were contagious.” ~ Melissa Montgomery
