The Hollyburn Country Club for the Budget Bride

The Hollyburn Country Club for the Budget Bride

If you’re a tennis fan, chances are you’ve heard of the Hollyburn Country Club. Every year the Odlum Brown tournament is held there, but did you know they host weddings too? I met up with Catering Coordinator Paige Wilson and she showed me around their facility.

The Hollyburn Country Club is located in a secluded location in West Vancouver. Nothing but nature surrounds you, a perfect backdrop for an event, especially when the sun is setting. I’ve heard it is breathtaking. If you explore the grounds, there are lots of photo opportunities so you don’t need to be too far away before the big reception. Ambleside Park is also a short drive away in case you want a different setting. The country club has a few rooms available for events: the Creekside Room, the Dining Room, and the Club Lounge, but let me start with their West Patio and adjoining Peak Studio.

The West Patio($500 rental, when hosting a reception in another room) is a great space for an 80-guest outdoor ceremony. Conveniently, there is a small room attached to it called the Peak Studio, which can seat 40 or 50 guests for dinner or up to 75 for a cocktail reception. If you book the West Patio for your ceremony, either the Creekside rooms or the Club Lounge will be available as a Plan B, in case it rains… as it often does in Vancouver.

The Creekside Room was unfortunately occupied when I visited but Paige tells me it is quite a room. It is spacious, with lots of natural light, adaptable to smaller or larger parties, and looks out onto lush forest and mountain views. Creekside I & II ($375 rental, minimum f/b spend $750) combined can seat 100 guests for dinner and dancing, but can be split up into rooms that can accommodate intimate get-togethers. Creekside I ($175 rental) can hold 30 for dinner and dancing, while Creekside II ($200 rental) is slightly larger and can hold 40.

If your guestlist can’t quite fit in the Creekside Room, you have the option of going with the Dining Room ($750 rental, minimum f/b spend $5,000) which can hold 120 guests for dinner and dancing, or their massive Club Lounge ($750 rental, waived if $750 minimum f/b has been met), which can handle a 250 guestlist for dinner and dancing. The Club Lounge is a room without a view, a blank canvas. It is perfect for those with larger parties who wants to completely customize the look of the room… it may not be for the budget bride, but it’s definitely for the bride with a specific vision. The Dining Room however, faces out onto the water and is adjacent to the club’s restaurant and patio. Since the Dining Room is part of the restaurant, there is an elevated section which also has a small wall as a barrier. To help prevent your guests from having trouble seeing the head table, the club can provide a riser/stage to elevate the head table. There are also TV’s in the Dining Room which you can show slideshows on, rather than bringing in a screen and projector. The club has A/V items available for rent as well.

Things to Know About the Hollyburn Country Club

  • What’s great about this venue is their low minimum spends and the fact that if you meet them, they will also waive the room rental fee. Their minimum spends remain constant throughout the year, for now.
  • Their cake cutting fee is a modest $1 per person but can be waived if you are bringing in cupcakes.
  • Free parking is available for guests in the lower lot, just make sure you don’t park where it’s members only.
  • Thanks to the new laws, they will allow you to bring in your own bottles of wine but be prepared to pay the $20 corkage fee per bottle. Maybe you’d be better off ordering from their inventory, with bottles starting at $24 per bottle.
  • Save on some dinner music by bringing in your mp3 player loaded with your favourite songs. They can hook it up for you and have your tunes playing on their built-in speakers!
  • All rooms include setup, but the Dining Room may incur an extra $250 fee depending on the furniture usage. There is no charge to use the furniture in the dining room but if clients want to use banquet furniture instead, then a labour cost will apply.
  • They have flexible event start times, but you have to be out of the building by 1 AM.
  • Dance floors need to be rented and assembled for any room you book.
