L’Abattoir for the Budget Bride

L'Abattoir for the Budget Bride

Gastown is one of my favourite places in the city. The cobblestones and the brick buildings take me back to a whole other time and exude a European vibe. Not to mention all the trendy shops and high end restaurants, a few steps in either direction will take you to a new culinary masterpiece. One of those spots is L’Abattoir, on the corner of Carrall Street and Blood Alley. Ever been there? I have and I had a lovely meal, but I was pleasantly surprised to find out that they can accommodate intimate weddings too! A great option for those wanting to celebrate in the city.

L'Abattoir

L’Abattoir offers a 1,200 square foot private dining space adjacent to the restaurant. The room can be used as a whole or divided in two with a noise reducing barrier. The whole room would be best for wedding receptions with 50 people max, seated at 2 long tables, but for cocktail receptions, the guest list can be increased to 70.

The floorplan can be configured to suit your event. For example, for a more intimate gathering of 24, one side can be set up for a ceremony and other other side will have the dinner table set up or perhaps cocktail tables. For receptions only, each room can have a long table each or one side can have the dinner table and the other would be a cocktail area. There is also space for a DJ or live music, but you should confirm with both the restaurant and your music vendor just how much space they will need, as well as their technical needs. Know that because of this, the maximum capacity of the venue may change.

The minimum spend for food and beverage starts at $2,500, which can easily be achieved, even with a 24 person guest list. They offer 3 to 4 course plated options or if you prefer something more affordable, they do have family style menus too. There is also no additional room rental. To get a feel for the restaurant, I encourage you to drop by and have a meal just to take in the surroundings and most of all see if you like what they have to offer. It’s a beautiful space and the brick and beam, industrial modern meets elegance look extends to their private dining area too. In my opinion, you can save on decorations because you really don’t need to do much to this space. Some floral arrangements perhaps, which you can have your own vendor bring in or the L’Abattoir can take care of that for you for a fee. The room should be small enough not to require audio/visual equipment but you can rent items like a projector and screen if you need to.

Love the space? Check out their social media links below to find out more about them or fill out the event request form here.
